# Interview with Alex Leonhart: Magic, Energy and Amulets

## Introduction

Thanks to a wonderful 3rd party who organised and conducted the interview we have this new interview with Alex Leonhart a teacher from the Mystery College, who has published a course on [Concordian Energy Work](https://courses.perseusarcaneacademy.com/b/concordian-energy-course) and is currently working on a course on Amulet Magic, he is both a scholar as can be seen from his many writings and a practitioner of many, many years in some hard to find traditions. I know from private discussions with Alex that this interview only scratches the surface, though we are deeply grateful for it as he is also well versed in other systems of what could be called Chinese Systems of Magic or Folk Magic from South East China due to the area he lives in, in the Philippines, there are many settlers from other areas of the world who brought their own magical system with them - perhaps a future post.

If you enjoy this post please let us know in the comments and consider taking a look at the[ Concordian Energy Work course](https://courses.perseusarcaneacademy.com/b/concordian-energy-course) from Alex, which as I say is just scratching the surface of his knowledge.

## Interview

**PAA: So to begin, could introduce yourself and share your background in magic, spirituality and yoga** **(briefly, after all it’s pretty extensive).**

Hi. I’m Alex Leonhardt, and I am by personal practice a Shaiva Hindu adhering to the *Vamachara* school. By circumstance and environment, I work with spirits, herbal medicine, and an assortment of other things. I suppose some people in the West would call it a ‘healer’, but that’s a very weighty title - and one that I feel I am unworthy of boasting about. In the local language, I am either a *‘tambalan*’ (medicine person, although this carries its own unique connotations within the Native American systems of belief), a ‘*espiritisa*’ (spirit worker), or (if my haters are to be believed), a ‘*mambabarang*’ (witch doctor / hex caster). I personally prefer to be called a *‘salamancera*’ (sorcerer), because that’s what my teacher was, and that is what I do, and therefore that is what I am.

Beyond my traditional leanings, I have been a member (at various points of my life) of both the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKON), as well as the Ananda Marga, although I am not ‘Hindu’, by birth. I was born, raised, and baptised into the fold of the Catholic Church, as are most people in my neck of the woods. I only began to expand my horizons during my early adolescence, and, having graduated (as a government-funded scholar) in an Islamic university, I have also practised Sunni Islam (the most predominant type of Islam practiced in the Philippines), and have been introduced into Ismail’i Islam and Sufi’-ism by my late college professor.

**PAA: You also have experience working as a… well I guess there’s no other word for it… as a spirit detective. Have you ever watched the anime Yu Yu hakusho**?

Lol. You could say that. I suppose there’s no other word for it. But I am not under Ko-Enma’s employ, nor do I receive orders from the Netherworld. I grew up in the early 90s, so yeah, I have watched Yu Yu Hakusho. Lol.

**PAA: You even had your own Master Genkai didn’t you**.

Yes, I did, bless her Soul. A good chunk of the sh-t I know, I know because of her.

**PAA: So would it be fair to say that this first course on Energy work is foundational to all of this defensive magic**.

Yes, in essence. But that’s not all that energy work is for. It’s the *cornerstone* of every practice that one undertakes. A lot of people view energy working as either a ‘defensive magic’ matter or a ‘health and wellness’ matter - but what it really is is a *sum total of all magic* matter.

**PAA: I also understand that it gets people feeling energy right away, which is one of the big hurdles in most systems**.

Yes, and the reason for that is simple: the energy work that I present is simply a consolidation of two of the more ‘renowned’ energy-working practices in the world: the Indian *chakra *system and the Chinese *chi* system, stripped down to only the essentials, supplemented with *pranayama* (breath work) and *mudra *and *bandha *(bodily locks). Combined, they elicit an instantaneous effect because the biological impetus of the human body itself *generates the effect*. There is *no way *that it will ‘not work’, because for it to ‘*not work*’, you would have to

- Not be a mammal, in this case a human. And

- Not be alive.

But so long as one is mammalian, and one *breathes* and is alive and conscious, the method *will *work. And that is why I am confident and can tack on a ‘money-back’ guarantee on its efficacy.

**PAA: So would you say this system trains Vital, Astral, or Mental energy**.

First we have to address the distinctions that some ‘Western’ systems ascribe to energy. This notion of having three separate demarcations between ‘vital’, ‘astral’, and ‘mental’ energy is, in my insignificant opinion, a load of pish-posh. Energy *is vital energy*. This is what the Hindus call *prana*, and what the Chinese (and most of Asia) call *chi*. This ‘vital energy’ constitutes what some philosophers would call a ‘soul’ or an ‘*anima*’, or ‘consciousness’. This ‘consciousness’ is what the *shamans *of Tungus and Tibetan societies say would ‘travel’ to the Spirit World (i.e. ‘astral energy’). All of these concepts are comprehended by, made manifest through, and consolidated by *will (sankalpa shakti*)* *as demonstrated by *knowledge* and perception (*jnana*), and is essentially ‘mental energy’. There is no demarcation. It is one single, cohesive, continuous, concordant thing.

**PAA: So in this view it would be better to say that all these different ‘types’ of energy are in truth one thing, and that it’s wiser to focus on strengthening your ‘overall’ energy than worry about your strength in one type.**

That is correct. They are in actuality, just one single thing. The demarcations exist due to the ‘technical’ and ‘clinical’ nature of Western practice, and it gets in the way of doing the actual work which guarantees actual results.

**PAA: Would it then also be fair to say that this course addresses higher level skills as well? When you first described this course I thought it only covered steps 1 and 2 in the Bardon system, but it sounds like it goes far beyond that**.

Yes, it does. The energy work course by itself acts as a foundation for all magical practice - whether that is regular energy cultivation, summoning, manifestation, healing, or what-have-you. Bardon’s system (from my humble and somewhat limited understanding) follows the Hindu basis of *tapasaya* (cultivation), and so it makes sense why his methods and my method (I say ‘my’, but it isn’t really ‘mine’, because a holistic practice that is for everyone cannot by ‘owned’ by anyone) have some degree of overlap. But the taking from the foundation (which is energy work), if you have an extensive well of energy, and are aware of *how* to make energy flow, how to collect it, how to project it, and how to store it properly, you have, essentially, an unlimited wellspring of magic with which to work with all magics.

**PAA: Wow that’s pretty extensive, but you plan to go even further with your upcoming Amulet course, isn’t that right?**

Yes, absolutely. Amulets are *the* earliest, if not *the most concrete* manifestation of magic across all societal stratas, across all of human history (recorded or otherwise). They are the perfect catalyst for energy work because they are made, can store, and are able to project energy as an extension of the human body. BUT I’ll leave the rest of the details for the upcoming course (which is coming soon to a theatre near you!)

**PAA: You also have some availability for personal consultations as well**.

Yes, I do. Please reach me via my Telegram (# +639276020434), or via my personal email alex.leonhart01@gmail.com

You can also try to summon me from the depths of Hell Realm, but I’ll be too busy trying to rule it, so your queries might go unanswered if you decide to take that route. Lol.

**PAA: That is very exciting, before we go is there any last piece of practice advice you have for the aspiring magician**.

Stop thinking about the technicalities. Like Nike always says: ‘Just do it.’ You can think about the ‘whyfores’ later. Technicalities and whyfores make comprehending magic easy, but it makes for *doing *magic a pain in the arse.
