# Franz Bardon, Kabbalah & Purification: An Interview with Alexandre Moryason

## Introduction

In this interview I think we have one of our most informative and inspirational interviews in relation to the teachings of Franz Bardon. I would like to express our thanks to Editions Moryason and of course to Alexandre Moryason for sharing with us and for giving such clear, direct advice to practitioners. In case you are not aware Alexandre Moryason is the translator for the French editions of Franz Bardon's *Initiation into Hermetics*, the *Practice of Magical Evocation* and the *Key to the True Quabbalah*. He added many footnotes to these translations which make this French language set of Franz Bardon's teachings even more precious as the hand of a practitioner has ensured the true meaning is retained.

Be sure to visit Editions Moryason website to see the titles they have available. As you can see from this interview anything that is there, you know is because it is truly useful for practitioners.

## On Apparent Contradictions in the KTQ

**PAA: One of the first things readers of KTQ notice is initial confusion in relation to letters and body regions—for instance, with the letter B. In step I-I of KTQ, Bardon gives exercises with letters assigned to one body region, but in step IV, they are assigned to other regions for practice. You are probably the only editor and publisher to provide a further explanation on this topic. To quote from the French edition of KTQ:**

> “It should be made clear at this point that various contradictions might be noticed by the
> reader as to the information given by the Author on the Elements acting in each Letter.
> This contradiction is only apparent. Despite the clear exposition given, this subject is
> very complex. In fact, it must be kept in mind that Electricity and Magnetism are
> produced from one another and that this game of alternating manifestation takes place
> on all planes of existence. Each Element therefore contains the other Three in a
> particular form of expression and in the following proportions: an atom of Ether is made
> up of 1/2 Ether and 1/8 of each of the other Elements; an atom of Fire is made up of 1/2
> Fire, 1/8 Ether and 1/8 of each of the other three Elements (Air Water-Earth). These
> proportions are found in an atom of Air, Water and Earth. The Kabbalistic Tree will be a
> valuable support for meditation regarding the Circulation of the Elements and the
> reflection of a Sphere or Sephira- linked to a dominant Element- in another located on
> the same Pillar.”

**Could you elaborate on how these apparent contradictions reflect deeper truths about the
interdependence of the elements, so the readers could gain a wider picture of the complexity
and dynamics of each letter's ability to be expressed in multiple spheres of our micro and macro cosmos?**

**Editions Moryason**: This work has to be done by the student as he/she practices Bardon's steps. Franz Bardon stresses many times that one has to meditate on these subjects and deepen one's understanding of the concepts. The logic to follow is to avoid focusing too much on the lower mind who is an obstacle to the manifestation of higher intuition (this higher intuition descends from the Buddhi-manas plane of our structure). This also implies the need to purify one's Elements (our subtle structure) in order to allow the understanding of this Knowledge (i.e. the KTQ). ***More concretely, (a key, in a way): the organs of the body and their subtle double are interconnected, as you know, which in fact reveals the electromagnetic aspect of these exchanges. There are therefore no contradictions in these two attributions made by FB. Consequently: practice, practice, practice and you will see, even feel, this interconnection.***

## Elemental Interdependence

**PAA: Each element contains the other three in varying proportions. How does this interconnectedness influence a Kabbalist's approach to balancing energies in their practices?**

**Editions Moryason**: Interdependence is the root of Magic: it's not only about Elements, but spiritual planes, organs, … all is interconnected and this should be considered when acting on a Magical level. An Element is composed of —on a basis of 4— :

- 1/2 of itself,

- the second half dividing into 3 parts, each linked respectively to the other 3 Elements.

- Akasha is found in what subtly surrounds the Element, like a circle divided into two equal halves.

- This distribution (1/2 and 3 equal parts forming the other half surrounded by Akasha) is that of a balanced Element.

In the average human, this distribution reveals inequalities, constituting what is called "the internal imbalance of an Element." The more this internal balance occurs, the more it interacts with the balance of the other Elements, thus gradually bringing about the overall balance of the elements among themselves.
This work simultaneously generates a change in the vibrational frequency of each Element, a change in its structure: it involves raising this frequency, which is, in the average human, quite low (3rd dimension).

This work of total purification of the Elements manifests itself through*** a change in consciousness*** (the essential goal of all spiritual practice). The practitioner thus reaches the 4th and 5th dimensions; ***opening the Path to Adepthood***.

***As human structure is naturally unbalanced and vibrates at low frequencies, as we have just specified***, the risk of an unbalanced practice is very high and one has to go through a period of Purification of his/her structure to be able to move forward with success.
The book “[The Light Over The Kingdom](https://shop.moryason.com/acceuil/149-the-light-over-the-kingdom.html)” teaches different balanced techniques (including “Purification teachings”) that you can practice right away, without risk, and that gives tangible results. Once a decent level of purification is reached, the elemental proportion/distribution is always the same: see IIH's footnotes.

## On the Kabbalistic Tree and Circulation

**PAA: The Kabbalistic Tree is suggested as a tool for meditating on the "circulation of the elements" and their reflections in different spheres or Sephirot. How does one approach this type of meditation practically, and what insights might it reveal?**

**Editions Moryason**: Before starting to work on this Tree, one must consider the absolute necessity of the Purification of our Elements. Let us note that the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, not having insisted enough on this, has had to deal with many setbacks (dangers, imbalances) of many of its members etc… The Masters of Wisdom asked Mathers at the beginning of the 20th century to close this Order; he obeyed. However, individual practices have not ceased and, worse, a recent so-called reactivation of this Order was made, producing the same negative consequences.

The Kabbalistic Tree is the symbol of the ideal circulation of energies in the human structure. As we said earlier, human nature is ***naturally unbalanced***1, so practically one should :

>  *(...) submit individual electromagnetism to the action of Universal Electromagnetism in order to untangle the neurotic intertwining of energies structuring the psyche and the intellect and thus allow the emergence of a Divine State in man.* *(The Light Over The Kingdom p.20 ) *

So the main approach here is ***Purification***. Without this step, no further progress can be made because of the unbalanced nature of mankind. ***Purification ***progressively allows the emergence of a Divine state in ourselves. The practical teachings can be found in the book “*The Light Over The Kingdom*”. The insights are quite similar to what is found in occult literature: the Emergence of a Divine state in a person allows the consciousness of that person to grow to a level not understandable by a uninitiated person, it also allows the emergence of “siddhis”, the occult powers, that are well documented in Bardon's books, so no further explanation is needed. For the average person, the benefits are an expansion of consciousness, a better karma and some beginning of Hermetic faculties that may start to manifest harmoniously, depending on the gifts, the karma, and the elemental structure of the person.

## Cosmic Breath and Elements

**PAA: The description of the "Divine Breath" in relation to the circulation of elements suggests a perpetual flow of creation and dissolution. How does this concept align with the Hermetic axiom "As above, so below," and how can it be practically applied in meditative work?**

**Editions Moryason: **“Divine Breath” is an aspect of the Unique, what Bardon calls “Akasha”. This substance is Life and therefore is Light and Movement. There are different spiritual Worlds and Realms ( each one of those Realms having it's own *light color *and *Number*, its evocation mandala-form ) all are influenced/created/maintained by Akasha as Bardon explains. So the practical applications of that concept are almost endless. This was masterfully described by Franz Bardon in his three books. However, one must be careful with the various spiritual schools that promote methods of "breathing" because the action of the Breath is essential in the energetic structure of every living being and without a ***sure transmission ***(ie: transmission by a qualified Positive Instructor), one can be exposed to several dangers.

## Balancing Secrecy and Knowledge Sharing

**PAA: How should a practitioner discern when it is appropriate to share esoteric knowledge with others versus maintaining secrecy to align with karmic timing?**

**Editions Moryason: **Franz Bardon stresses that the best help is done anonymously. ***We do not want to become a “guru”, ***that may slow down our spiritual progress, and is not beneficial to third parties. So most of the time, it's better to let people evolve naturally, without meddling in their spiritual development. Of course, if one sees a grave danger or a similar situation where help has to be given, then one has to help. The best is to do it anonymously, or in a way so humble that the recipient of the help will not notice us or will forget our very existence. Advanced Hermetic practitioners can look in the Akasha how several scenarios may play out, and choose the one that suits the more the interest of the person he/she wants to help.

## Theurgy as Co-Creation with the Divine

**PAA: Theurgy is described as working alongside Divine Providence in the Great Work. How does this concept reconcile individual free will with the overarching will of Divine Providence, especially when engaging in transformative magical acts? Can failures in this realm have far-reaching karmic repercussions? **

**Editions Moryason: **The following example will give a clear picture of our answer. The example of the way Adepts work is enlightening: Adepts give the “blueprint” (What has to be done from the perspective of Divine Laws) to their disciples, giving them *free will *in the way they *manifest *the blueprint. So, there is not just “one perfect action”, there may be different ways to achieve the correct goal, the correct way, and that's how we reconcile free will *and *following Divine Providence's plan.

Failures always have repercussions: but as Franz Bardon says, as long as we learn from our mistakes and ***we do not do it again***, it's ok, it's part of the process of self-growth.

**PAA: Connection to Other Traditions: The text mentions parallels between Kabbalah and other Traditions, such as Kundalini Yoga. What are the key similarities and differences between these systems in their approach to elemental energies?**

**Editions Moryason: **What you call “Kundalini Yoga” is not a Tradition but a practice included in the Eastern Traditions (Hinduism and Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism). This practice is part of those that enable developing occult faculties inherent of the human structure. Like everything that is involved in this development, the danger is present. Also, all these practices (including Kundalini Yoga) are transmitted by an initiation that cannot be found in the works that supposedly disclose them; this has been common in the West since the last decades of the last century. It must also be considered that many black magicians, disguised as “kind gurus”, “transmit” initiations that are “inverted”; when people follow and practice these harmful instructions, they unknowingly provide vital energy to the black magician, “guru”. This vampirism tends to excessively devitalize the practitioner-victim and in the long run sometimes they lead to illnesses and death. But the worst is that, through these inverted practices, the person soils, lowers his/her Elements which transforms him into an increasingly negative being with the karmic consequences that follow. Even if this victim will benefit from "mitigating circumstances", the Universal Laws governing the substance of our bodies will trigger the need to purify this substance (and then negative karmic situations have to manifest to purify the substance and balance karma) ...

Franz Bardon system has strong similarities with Tibetan teachings as books like “Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines2” clearly demonstrate. Those who had the chance to visit Franz Bardon's family know that he made no mystery of the links he had with Tibet.

Franz Bardon's teachings are way more precise, down to earth, almost scientific and accessible to everybody. Tibetan teachings, on the other hand, clearly require someone to already have some connection to the occult, so to the westerners the approach is too harsh.

As a consequence, elemental energies will be well better described by Bardon, as will all the others concepts and exercises. Regarding the link with Kabbalah and Bardon, this time, the nations are both westerners so the thought process and mental structure is similar. The difference between those two teachings is just that because of the “*fall of the generations*3” , many knowledge has been lost , hidden, or sometimes corrupted by the “*brothers of the shadow”. *So Franz Bardon came and re-founded the teachings, left us with books we can trust and a system that has been validated by a true positive Adept. One can list the similarities (like the “*Berakhot*” and Bardon's “Conscious reception of food”) but suffice it to say that Bardon's work is more precise, practical, up to date and Divinely oriented. We have all encountered old Kabbalistic texts where some Divine Names are written, but how to be sure it's not the name of a demon? Texts have been rewritten many times! Franz Bardon's work is a guarantee that we are in contact with positive energies and that we do not become the toy of the “brothers of the shadow”.

That being said, Franz Bardon has disclosed the general rules of Hermeticism, but has not disclosed the “Master-to-Disciple” one to one Transmission: this is due to the very fact that his writings are intended for all audiences.

## The Alchemy of Divine Names

**PAA: The texts discuss the power of Divine Names in invoking energies or qualities. How can practitioners ensure their understanding of these Names transcends rote repetition, allowing them to tap into the transformative essence behind the Name? **

**Editions Moryason: **To tap into the transformative essence behind the Divine Name***, one has to take into account the structure of the practitioner. ***The westerner usually only focus on the technique, and forgets about the state of his/her spiritual (etheric, astral, mental “subtile”) structure. But the results of Theurgy (the use of Divine Names), highly depends of the ***purification ***of the structure of the practitioner. For example, in the “*Letters of the Mahatmas*”, the Master Koot Hoomi clearly explains that ***the Magic performed by Jesus was achieved more by his state of purity***4***, than by the use of complicated or secret techniques and teachings***. Even in traditional Orthodox Judaism and Kabbalah, it is common knowledge that magic results are obtained trough purification or a state of purity, the “*Tzaddikim*5” are well known to maintain that state of ***purification, ***and not by the use of hidden and forbidden secrets of “*Kabbalah Ma'asit*6”. Old ***Kabbalistic literature explains the importance of purification with some “tests” to validate, and if the purification test is not ok, one has to cancel the ritual and give up with the scheduled utterance of the Divine Name***(s).

Yet, despite all these examples and Traditions, it is our experience that most westerners do not take into account their structure and the importance of purification: this means that they rely on their concrete lower mind, in all their investigations in the field of Occultism; now, this precise mind (called in Tibetan “sem”) is, in this language, almost synonymous with “enemy”... They may experience side effects and/or disappointments. In the book ***“The Light Over The Kingdom”, this problem is addressed and safe purification rituals and techniques are given. ***

## “The Light over the Kingdom”

**PAA: You are the author of several books, including The Light over the Kingdom, which is perhaps the most accessible to an international audience outside France. Could you give us a short introduction to this work, what inspired you to write it, and how it can assist a practitioner interested in Franz Bardon’s curriculum of magic?**

**Editions Moryason**: “The Light over the Kingdom” is intended for the general public. There are also other publications intended for those who practice “The Light over the Kingdom”… like “Créator (Khâ-Hérou-Hathor)”, “The Pentacle of the Kingdom”, however those are not books so to speak, but rather magical methods. “The Pentacle of the Kingdom” is a sacred consecrated object, accompanied by a booklet, is requested, once again, by those who practice “The Light over the Kingdom”. So this book (“The Light over the Kingdom”) is the only one truly intended for the general public.

Franz Bardon has mentioned the existence of “Ankhur Magic”, but has not given one to his/her students, leaving them with the freedom to choose the one of their culture or liking. Franz Bardon's system is known to be hard to practice, so it became clear people would benefit from the practice of an Ankhur. ***Alexandre Moryason's book “The Light over the Kingdom” is designed to be practiced with Bardon's books and to be an “Ankhur Magic”, aimed at helping the practitioner of Franz Bardon's teachings to make progress.***

Our approach and experience of four decades demonstrates that the main problems of the western student are :

1) the lack of ***purification ***of his/her structure and;

2) the almost exclusive use of one's concrete lower mind, which hinders the spontaneous expression of Love.

This book addresses that problem and is an unique opportunity to “touch something from the world of the Spirit”, (whose ultimate true nature is Compassion/Love). The book covers many subjects ranging from Egyptian Magic, Ankhur, Karmic purification, Kabbalah to Fire Rituals.

## Esoteric Knowledge in France

**PAA: France has a long history of Initiatic Orders, Lodges, and magical groups. What is the current scene like compared to its complex past?**

**Editions Moryason**: French occultists tend to be secretive compared to Anglo-Saxons. They do not discuss those subjects.

## Esoteric Community

**PAA: How has your interaction with the Esoteric Community shaped your views, and what feedback do you find most valuable? **

**Editions Moryason: **Four decades of interaction with the Esoteric Community proves, beyond doubt, that the westerner structure needs to be ***purified ***to start to get results with Franz Bardon's teachings. We also came to the conclusion that many hardships faced by the practitioners of Magic have a Karmic root. The most valuable and rewarding feedback comes from those who seriously follow our spiritual roadmap and teachings, and overcome the karmic problems they face as good students of Occultism. Our satisfaction is in the countless testimonies, over these many years, from practitioners who have experienced spectacular changes in their lives, both on a concrete level (material desires) and in terms of the evolution of consciousness toward the Divine.

It should also be noted that this purification does not, of course, concern only Westerners but all human beings.

## Advice to New Students

**PAA: What advice would you give to someone interested in stepping into the world of esotericism, either as a practitioner or researcher? **

**Editions Moryason: **To practice alone, read and practice Franz Bardon's books. Do not underestimate the importance of ***purification ***as it is needed for the westerner's spiritual structure. As Franz Bardon's teachings are difficult, you might consider the use of an “*Ankhur Magic*” to help, and speed up the process. We offer this type of Ankhur Magic in our book, “*The Light Over The Kingdom”. ****A researcher should be aware that strong forces opposing Light exist***: if a researcher wants to publish the result of his/her work, it is advisable to take that into account and to have a clear picture of the possible very difficult consequences.

## Franz Bardon Tradition

**PAA: What do you believe makes Bardon's teachings stand out compared to other esoteric traditions? **

**Editions Moryason: **They are unique, clear, ***recent ***and the content is for everybody to see. You do not need to loose your liberty by joining a group or a Positive Brotherhood to get the content of the “last levels”. ***You can work alone, make progress, and while you may think you are alone, you can be sure Franz Bardon will keep an eye on you. All serious practitioners of Franz Bardon know what we mean by that.***

> ***We put a stress on practicing, alone, away from the crowd, anonymously.***

## Integrity in Publishing

**PAA: How do you ensure that the essence and integrity of Bardon's teachings are preserved in your publications? **

**Editions Moryason : **We avoid the ego-life of the mundane. We do not speak publicly, do not have a YouTube channel, no social networks, we do not attend meetings, no “Instagram lifestyle”. Our Translations obviously do not change so the integrity you're talking about is preserved by the above mentioned behavior: staying away from all medias. ***We put a stress on practicing, alone, away from the crowd, anonymously.***

## Misconceptions

**PAA: What do you think are the common misconceptions about Franz Bardon and his teachings? **

**Editions Moryason: **Four decades of contact with the western public proves that the biggest misconception is to believe you can go forward with Franz Bardon's teachings without serious work on the Elemental balance and its subsequent ***purification***. Let's face it with blatant honesty: we westerners tend to think: “*we are “already clean”, there is no urge to change our elemental balance.”  *

So this is the first and biggest misconception: we need to go through a serious process of ***purification***, to get rid of our dark side, our imbalance. When we reach a better elemental balance, then some Bardon steps will be easier to practice, or we may even fully master an exercise after taming an important defect of our psychological nature. The second important misconception or mistake about Franz Bardon's teachings is not to make the difference between Quality and Quantity. *(see “Arion” & The Key to the True Kabbalah) *Many practitioners make that mistake and underestimate the need for Quantity to materialize their wish. So either the action does not work, and they are sad, or – what is worse – the wish will be granted but nature will have to reimburse herself taking directly the missing Quantity from the structure of the practitioner. ***The person can then suffer a karmic problem*, **get ill, or even if some extreme cases, have his life span shortened. This, of course, also applies to cases where people ask Spirits with things that use an extreme amount of Quantity, without thinking if their own structure can cope with the amount required in the first place. A smart student of Occultism will instantly guess that such an unbalanced approach may lead to pacts or similar calamities. ***Obviously, such an error denotes an elemental imbalance, the presence of an impurity in the structure, and the subsequent need for purification to finally be successful with the practice of Franz Bardon***.

## Advice for Studying the Franz Bardon Books

**PAA: What advice would you give to someone just beginning their journey with Bardon’s books?  **

**Editions Moryason: **To practice alone, read and practice Franz Bardon's books. Do not underestimate the importance of ***purification ***as it is needed for the westerner's spiritual structure. As Franz Bardon's teachings are difficult, you might consider the use of an “Ankhur Magic” to help, and speed up the process. We offer this type of Ankhur Magic in our book, *The Light Over The Kingdom. ****Be sure that Franz Bardon follows your progress, EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT AWARE OF IT: the Light Brotherhood is real, and a sincere student will soon or later receive some “signs” in his/her Path.***

**PAA: How has technology influenced the dissemination of Bardon’s teachings in recent years?**

**Editions Moryason: **Before internet, followers of Bardon Teachings had to physically meet: usually in a bookshop or a similar place. Technology removed that requirement and all Bardon followers all over the world started to be able to communicate and share their journey on the Internet. So for people living in big cities, the change is not that noticeable, it's really a game changer for the more distant and poorer communities in the country or abroad.

All you need is a cellphone, and you can talk to a serious practitioner living the other side of the world at no cost, even if you live in the most remote, poor and wild area of the world.

This is the material reality: human contact is facilitated. ***However, this kind of exchange harbors some harm: ***we exchange our experiences—which are purely individual because they depend on our own elemental and karmic structure—with another person whose experiences come from their own elemental and karmic structure. The result creates real delays because one tends to adopt the advice of another... (ie: *another insufficiently experienced student*)

***This explains why F. Bardon never ceases to insist on solitary and discreet work.***

## Future Titles from Editions Moryason

**PAA: How do you see the future of your shop and publishing efforts in France? Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you’re excited about? **

**Editions Moryason: **We are in the process of publishing:

• Alexandre Moryason's last translation: *Zanoni, Maître Rose+Croix, *written by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. This faithful translation is based on the initial manuscript of 1845. ***Alexandre Moryason wrote a Preface which explains what the true Order of the Rose+Croix is, so mysterious***, and a subject that has caused rivers of ink to flow. He also reveals a manuscript bearing the signature of F. Bardon, who signs as a Rosicrucian Initiator-Master. ***This new translation has the merit of providing an adjacent esoteric teaching in 276 footnotes, including historical knowledge and various mythologies. ***

• The translation by Noël Richard-Nafarre (author of the excellent biography of *«Helena Petrovna Blavatsky ou la réponse du Sphynx "*) of two works by the great Tibetologist David Reagle:

⮚ *The Book of Dzyan or The Sources of "The Secret Doctrine" *

⮚ *The Books of Kiu-te or the Tibetan Buddhist Tantras *

***These two works constitute a real revelation of the authenticity of the Sources of the Teachings received by H.P. Blavatsky, delivered by the Masters of Wisdom, Morya*** ***and Koot Hoomi. ***Indeed, since no one had access to the archives of the Planetary Annals written in the Senzar language and kept in Tibet by the Adepts of the Great White Lodge, doubt was allowed about the integrity of H.P. Blavatsky, so unjustly slandered. However, due to the Chinese invasion of Tibet in October 1950, most of the precious manuscripts were saved and taken abroad, including the famous book of "Kiu-te", which H.P. Blavatsky constantly refers to in the writing of "The Secret Doctrine". David Reagle, as a Tibetologist, had access to these documents, including the "Kiu-te". It is this clear translation, with the approval of our Tibetologist, that we also offer to our readers. We see 2025 as the opening of a new positive spiritual cycle.

**PAA: Huge thanks for accepting our invitation and for providing such a thorough response to each of our questions.**
